Erasmus+ Staff Week 2026: Education for Democracy – Call for Participation
Across Europe, societies are facing multiple, overlapping crises, including wars and armed conflicts, climate change and environmental disasters, displacement and migration, etc. These challenges strain social cohesion and democratic systems, threatening core values of the European Union: freedom, democracy, equality, and the rule of law. In such times, it is crucial that citizens from diverse cultural, religious, and linguistic backgrounds actively uphold these shared principles.
Schools – and other educational institutions – play a central role in equipping children and youth to meet current and future challenges. Schools are not only places of learning but also spaces for living democratic values. To prepare future generations, educators must foster reflection, resilience, and intercultural competence, as well as the ability to manage conflict and tolerate ambiguity.
The Erasmus+ Staff Week “Education for Democracy” will take place in Heidelberg (Germany) in 2026. We cordially invite teacher educators at universities from across Europe to exchange ideas on implementing democracy education in different contexts. Drawing on examples from German educational practice, participants will discuss shared challenges and approaches, gaining new perspectives and inspiration for their own institutions.
The programme features keynote lectures, interactive workshops, cultural activities, and a poster session where participants present their universities.
